August 9, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Fond du Lac, WI - On Wednesday night, the Rockers won against the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders on the road 9-3. With the win, they take a 7-4 lead in the season series ahead of the last game of the series on Thursday night.
Starting on the mound for the Rockers was Logan Lee (Middle Georgia State). His day would consist of six innings on the hill where he only allowed two earned runs and struck out four batters. Five of the innings he pitched in were scoreless for Fond du Lac.
The Rockers opened this game's scoring in the first inning. Jojo Jackson (Georgia State) launched an RBI double that scored Cooper Kelly (Kansas). Green Bay led 1-0 after the frame.
The runs continued to pile in for the Rockers as two more scored an inning later. Center fielder Max Mims (Southwestern) drove in two runs with a single. His two RBIs would put the Rockers in front 3-0.
After two runs from the Dock Spiders in the bottom of the fourth Green Bay's offense exploded for six runs in the seventh inning. After three RBIs from Jackson and Jayson Jones (Arkansas), left fielder Sam Polk (Washington-St. Louis) and Mateo Matthews (Wagner) added three more runs in back-to-back plate appearances. The rockers led the game 9-2 after the seventh-inning stretch.
Even though the Dock Spiders were able to get one run back in the bottom of the frame, the combined relief efforts of Jake Liberta (Hawaii-Hilo) and Connor Nolen (Carroll) would keep the Rockers in front to win 9-3.
Green Bay's offense produced 12 total hits for the game. Kelly, Jones, Jackson, and Matthews all tallied multi-hit performances.
In the Great Lakes West Standings, the Rockers are 18-15 in the second half. The win brings them within two games of the Madison Mallards who are currently in first. Overall, the Rockers remain well above .500 at 39-30.
Up next for the Rockers is the final home game of the regular season. They return to Capital Credit Union Park to host the Dock Spiders for the series finale. The first pitch for Thursday night's game is set for 6:35 p.m.
