Willmar Stingers News Release
DULUTH, Minn. - Willmar tried to rally from a 4-0 deficit in the ninth inning with back-to-back doubles by Mitch Rowan and Corben Green, but the comeback fell two runs short in a 4-2 loss at Wade Stadium Thursday night.
Willmar (16-13) saw four of its seven base hits go for extra bases in the game, but couldn't push across a run until the final frame when the team trailed by four. In the ninth, Rowan (San Francisco) doubled to left-center field with one out, and Green (Louisiana Monroe) followed with a line-drive double to right field to advance Rowan to third. With Michael Suchy (Florida Gulf Coast) at the plate, Rowan scored on a balk and Green scored two pitches later on a wild pitch to cut the deficit in half, but the rally ended there.
Suchy finished the game 2-for-4 with a double, while JD Dorgan also had a multi-hit effort, going 2-for-3 with a double. Forrestt Allday (Central Arkansas) had the other base hit for the Stingers and added his seventh stolen base of the season. Allday earned a walk to leadoff the game, increasing his league-leading total in that category to 27.
Duluth took the lead in the third inning with two runs on two hits. They added a run in each of the seventh and eighth innings to make it 4-0 entering the ninth. The Huskies finished the contest with 10 hits.
George Asmus (Washington) took the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings while striking out three. Josh Biggs (Evansville) pitched the final 1.2 innings, striking out one batter and surrendering one run on two hits. Max McNabb earned the victory in his first start for Duluth, going six full innings and striking out six while only giving up four hits.
Willmar will conclude its two-game series in Duluth Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
