The Sarnia Sting dropped a 7-4 decision to the London Knights, Sunday afternoon in front of 3,482 boisterous fans at the RBC Centre.

The Sting held a 1-0 lead after one period before London rebounded to go ahead 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Sarnia scored a pair of quick goals early in period three to take a 4-3 lead. Then disaster struck as London scored four straight goals to skate off with the two points.

London's special teams proved to be the major difference as they scored three times on the power play and also added a key shorthanded tally as well.

"We executed our game plan for the most part," said Sting head coach, Trevor Letowski. "But the hockey gods just haven't been with us lately. In the end we weren't good enough to win. We all know what a lethal power play London has and they took advantage. We gave up only 26 shots and they scored six times. (One was empty net). That's not good enough."

The Sting has not now lost four straight.

"We are a beaten down team right now. We came away with no points this weekend and at this time of year we have to get points."

Letowski, the eternal optimistic, feels his team will bounce back with 10 games to go in the regular season.

"We have to keep working and pushing forward. These guys want it. We aren't that far off."

Mitch Marner led the Knights with two goals and three assists and was named the game's first star. Marner leads the Ontario Hockey League in scoring with 40 goals and 68 assists for 108 points.

Max Domi added two goals while Christian Dvorak, Josh Sterk and Julius Bergman counted singles.

Sterk scored who proved to be the winning goal at 12:42 of the third period on the power play. The Knights then scored a shorthanded goal at 14:25 and an empty net goal with a minute and a half to play.

Pavel Zacha had a nice game for the Sting scoring two goals, giving him 14 on the season. Daniel Nikandrov (16th) and Troy Lajeunesse (11th) tallied one goal apiece.

Hayden Hodgson, Brandon Lindberg, Jakob Chychrun, Nikita Korostelev, Noah Bushnell and Alex Renaud picked up assists.

Sarnia finished with a 34-26 edge in shots on goal. Michael Giugovaz was the winning goalie while Taylor Dupuis took the loss.

London finished three-for-five with the man advantage and Sarnia one-for-six.

The Sting has three games scheduled this weekend, but only one is on home ice.

Sarnia travels to Plymouth Thursday night to face the Whalers while the two teams have a return engagement Friday night at the RBC Centre. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Sting will be in Windsor Sunday afternoon to battle the Spitfires.
