Oshawa Generals News Release

After playing three games in three days this weekend, the Generals finished on a high note with a 5-3 win over the 67's at home. Today's win marks Oshawa's fourth win out of five matchups with Ottawa this season, and also clinched the Generals an East Division title for the second year in a row. Jeremy Brodeur was in net for his 14th game and was a key part of the success in today's win.

An early power play for the Gens didn't get them on the board but halfway through the first, Cole Cassels and Michael Dal Colle put on a show for the fans with a nifty two on one that ended in Dal Colle scoring his 37th of the season. The 67's bounced back quickly after Michael McCarron sat for cross checking and Nathan Todd sent home a rebound goal. The next Generals goal came from two top defenders as Josh Brown's shot off the post lead to a rebound goal by Will Petschenig, which was also assisted by Brent Pedersen. With nine seconds left in the opening period, the Generals extended their lead to 3-1 as Cassels scored with assists by Brown and Petschenig. After 20 minutes of play, the Gens managed 16 shots on Liam Herbst, while the 67's put 10 on Brodeur.

The 67's continued to show how they have been able to move up to the third spot in the Eastern Division early into the second. As Petschenig was called for tripping, Nathan Todd sent home a one-timer to cut Oshawa's lead to 3-2. The Gens were given another power play opportunity in the second period as Trent Mallette sat for roughing but they couldn't snag another. A tripping call to Dakota Mermis 8:55 to go in the period sent the 67's on the man-advantage and Craievich beat Brodeur short side to tie the game at 3-3. Despite a 5 on 3 power play chance for 55 seconds and a few close shots, the Generals could not get by Ottawa and Herbst. At the end of the second the score remained tied at 3-3 with the Generals outshooting the 67's 13-10.

Oshawa was able to step up in the third and the Craievich goal would be the last for Ottawa. The Gens managed to kill off the Matt Mistele and Hunter Smith penalties in the period. The 67's came close a few times in the last period, including an open net shot that was blocked by Brown to keep the game even. With 3:21 to go in the game, Bradley Latour squeaked the puck by Herbst and put the Generals up 4-3. Herbst went to the bench in the final 1:31, which lead to an empty net goal by Cassels, giving him his second of the night. It was an exciting third to say the least and the boys in red were able to pull off the win.

Our next home game is this Friday, Feb. 27 when the Generals take on the Belleville Bulls. They'll be back on the road Saturday and at home on Sunday, March 1 to face off against the Peterborough Petes. To purchase tickets, click here, visit the GM Centre Box Office, or call 1-877-436-8811.
