BINGHAMTON, NY - Steven Matz allowed one runner to reach over six scoreless innings, as the Binghamton Mets outdueled the Erie SeaWolves, 3-1, Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Matz, making his third rehab appearance, retired the final 16 batters he faced to earn the win in his return to Binghamton. Josh Rodriguez hit his 100th career home run.

Binghamton struck first, getting on the board against Josh Turley in the second inning. Joe Benson doubled to left field and advanced to third on a Wynton Bernard error. He came in to score one batter later when Jonathan Galvez lifted a fly ball to right field for the sacrifice fly.

The B-Mets would get back on the board an inning later. After an LJ Mazzilli leadoff single, Rodriguez launched a two-run homer to right field two batters later. The home run was the 100th of Rodriguez's career and gave the B-Mets a 3-0 lead after three frames.

That was plenty of run support for Matz, who retired the final 16 batters he faced after allowing a two-out single to Jeff McVaney in the first inning. McVaney was the only man to reach against Matz, who at one point struck out five consecutive SeaWolves. He needed just 56 pitches to get through his six innings, leaving with a 3-0 lead.

Gabriel Ynoa was the first man out of the B-Met bullpen, making his first relief appearance in four years. Ynoa worked around a single in each of his two innings of work, paving the way for Jon Velasquez.

Velasquez was greeted with a leadoff home run by Wynton Bernard to left field, getting the SeaWolves on the board. After allowing a two out single to Dominic Ficociello, Velasquez induced a groundball to short for the final out.

Matz (1-0) earned the win in his return, allowing one hit and striking out six in six innings. Turley (11-8) suffered the loss, allowing three runs in seven innings. He allowed just two hits in his final four innings. Velasquez earned his 17th save in 18 tries.

The B-Mets (69-57) continue their homestand by welcoming in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Thursday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Tyler Pill takes the hill against RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx.
