Stockton Ports News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Ports are excited to announce that third baseman Stephen Parker will represent the team at this year's California-Carolina League All-Star Game, which will be held on June 22 at BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Parker, who is batting .292 (63x216) with 14 doubles, a triple, nine home runs and 31 RBI in 59 games, has been named to his first California League All-Star team. He is one of seven infielders on the 23-man All-Star squad. Parker, a native of American Fork, Utah, currently leads the Stockton Ports in on-base percentage and slugging percentage, and is second in batting average, tied for first in home runs and is third in RBI. He also ranks among League leaders in games played and walks.
"We are excited to have Stephen represent the team in the upcoming All-Star Game," said Ports President and General Manager Pat Filippone. "He has been having a terrific season with us so far, and we hope he enjoys the All-Star experience."
Parker is also among the Top 10 batters in the Oakland Athletics farm system and is tied with teammate Mike Spina for most home runs by an A's minor leaguer with nine.
Parker was named the California League Batter of the Week for April 26-May 3. That week, he batted .333 (9x27) with two doubles, four home runs and eight RBI. He is the only Ports player this season to be named either the League Batter or Pitcher of the Week.
He posted an eight-game hitting streak from May 13 to May 20, batting .378 (14x37) with three doubles, a triple, one home run and seven RBI in that span.
Parker was selected in the 5th Round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, after attending Brigham Young University. He competed for the AZL A's and Kane County Cougars in 2009. This is his first season with Stockton.
