Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LANCASTER, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks Professional Baseball Club, Advanced Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros, and the City of Lancaster agreed Tuesday night on a new five year extension for the baseball team's lease of Clear Channel Stadium. The extension of the lease, which would have been up at the end of 2010, guarantees that Lancaster JetHawks baseball will continue to be played at the Hangar through at least the 2015 season. The lease also includes an option for an additional five years to be mutually agreed on by the JetHawks and the City of Lancaster.

"This is very exciting for the JetHawks, our fans, and for the entire Antelope Valley," says JetHawks General Manager Larry Thornhill. "Our 15th anniversary celebration this year has been a rousing success and I'm already looking forward to be being able to celebrate our 20th anniversary."

The extension was approved unanimously in a 3-0 vote of the Lancaster City Council Tuesday night. The agreement was worked out between the City and JetHawks ownership over the course of the past six months and went to the City Council for a vote after being recommended by the City Staff.

In addition to five more years of professional baseball at the Hangar, the lease extension also gives the JetHawks added flexibility to host additional sporting events such as the annual Varsity First Pitch and Larry Lake High School All-Star Games, and additional community events such as the highly-successful Autism Walk this past spring. The JetHawks will be hosting its first mixed martial arts event in conjunction with TapouT July 10. More events will follow through the baseball season and the off-season, including concerts.

"Renewing a stadium lease can be a really difficult project, so I feel very grateful that the City of Lancaster has been such a terrific partner in this process," says Thornhill. "I especially want to thank City Manager Mark Bozigian and Director of Parks and Recreation Bob Greene. Our fans are very fortunate that the City of Lancaster takes so much pride in the JetHawks and in our stadium facility. That level of care and support is a big part in our ability to bring such high quality and highly affordable family entertainment to the Antelope Valley."

The JetHawks are in the midst of celebrating their 15th anniversary and are projecting a significant increase in attendance for the fourth straight year. At the current pace, the team will have its highest attendance since the 2002 season.

The 2010 season marks the 15th anniversary of professional baseball in the Antelope Valley, and since its inaugural game in 1996, The Hangar has produced more than 90 Major Leaguers and inducted 25 members into The JetHawks Hall of Fame. Don't miss out on your chance to be a part of 15 years of Hangar Heroes in 2010.
