Steelhounds edge RiverKings in shootout

YOUNGSTOWN, OH --- Youngstown's Josh Reed converted in the eighth round of the shootout for the game winning goal as the Steelhounds defeated the RiverKings 5-4 in a shootout Thursday night in Youngstown. Despite the shootout loss, the point secured by the RiverKings puts them back in sole possession of first place in the Northeast Division, one point ahead of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. The RiverKings and Steelhounds play again tomorrow night at 6:05 CST at the Chevrolet Centre.

Brad Wanchulak, Ryan Held, Derek Landmesser and Steve Makway scored the goals for the RiverKings. The game was tied at one after the first, at three after two periods and at three at the end of regulation.

The Steelhounds outshot the RiverKings 38-25 for the game and improved to 27-16-9 while the RiverKings dropped to 34-13-5. Brad Roberts made 21 saves to get the win. He also stopped seven straight RiverKings attempts in the shootout after Jason Sessa converted on the team's first chance. Milan Maslonka and Reed scored their first goals of the season for Youngstown.

Larry Sterling stopped 33 shots in getting tagged with the OTL.
