March 1, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The New Mexico Scorpions are preparing for an exciting "Salute to the Badges" night on Friday. The Scorpions will honor all law enforcement officers, public safety workers and firefighters before, during, and after the game.
All law enforcement officers, public safety workers and firefighters are invited to the game for only $11. In addition, the Scorpions will wear special jerseys to be auctioned off after the game. All proceeds from the auction will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central New Mexico, Haven House and Safe House.
Prior to the game, the Albuquerque Police Department Honor Guard will present the colors and Sgt. Kevin Rowe of the Albuquerque Police Department will sing the National Anthem. Just prior to the start of the Scorpions taking on the Sundogs, Fire and Police Chiefs from around the state will be on hand for a ceremonial puck drop.
During both the first and second period intermissions, each side will battle for the "Salute to the Badges Cup." In addition to most tickets sold, the local law enforcement officers and firefighters will battle in a tricycle race, tug of war and sumo wrestling.
The final piece to the cup will be the "cops vs. fire" hockey game, immediately after the Scorpions game. Each of the five events is worth points with the winning organization getting to keep the "Salute to the Badges Cup" for a year.
The Scorpions would like to thank All Sports Trophies, located at 2939 Monte Vista Blvd., NE in Albuquerque for donating the beautiful trophy. Call Kent Mathis at (505) 268-2436 for your trophy needs.
During a second period media timeout, the Scorpions will honor all officers throughout the state who have fallen in the line of duty. During the video tribute, local police agencies will assemble a bagpipe troop and play "Amazing Grace."
The entire Scorpions organization is excited for the opportunity to honor these great men and women who serve our communities; making a great place to live.
Come see the young, tough and exciting New Mexico Scorpions at the Santa Ana Star Center. Flex plan tickets are still available for the remainder of the 2006-07 season.
