Idaho Steelheads News Release

Victoria, BC- Marty Flichel's seventh goal of the year was his first even strength goal of the season- and the eventual game-winner- for the Idaho Steelheads (7-4-5) as they topped the Victoria Salmon Kings (9-9-0) by a 2-1 score in Victoria. Mike Zacharias won his second straight start in net for Idaho.

Garth Murray- a newly signed Salmon King and a veteran of 116 games in the National Hockey League- scored his first ECHL goal in his first ECHL game as he tapped home the rebound of a P.J. Atherton shot on the power play at 15:26 of the first period to give Victoria a 1-0 lead.

Trailing 1-0, Idaho's John-Scott Dickson received a centering pass from Kael Mouillierat in the slot and fired a puck top-shelf to beat Victoria goalie David Shantz and tie the game at 1-1. Cody Lampl also assisted on Dickson's third goal of the season.

Marty Flichel scored the eventual game-winner at 11:25 of the third period immediately following a faceoff on the right wing side in the Salmon Kings zone. Flichel chopped the puck toward the slot, the puck bounced off a Victoria defenseman, and found its way to the back of the net to give Idaho a 2-1 lead.

Mike Zacharias stopped 28 of 29 shots in the Idaho victory; his record in net improves to 3-1-2. David Shantz stopped 21 of 23 in the Victoria loss; he is now 5-6-0 in net for the Salmon Kings.

The Steelheads and Salmon Kings will renew their rivalry Friday and Saturday nights in Victoria before Idaho returns to Qwest Arena to host the Alaska Aces on December 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.
