November 24, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

The Alaska Aces and the Elmira Jackals met on Wednesday night from the First Arena in Elmira, NY in the first ever meeting between the two teams. The Aces had their four-game road winning streak snapped in a narrow 2-1 defeat. The Aces fell to 9-5-1 on the year, and 6-2 on the road this season. Alaska and Elmira will rematch on Saturday night as the Aces continue their season-long road trip. There was no scoring through one period of play with Elmira outshooting Alaska 8-6.

The Jackals broke the scoreless tie late in the second period with a power play goal from Patrick Coulombe. A shot from the blue line went wide, but sprung off the end glass and Coulombe snapped the puck home at 16:15. The Aces nearly tied the goal on a scramble in the final seconds of the second period while on a power play, but time expired as goaltender Marco Cousineau and the Jackals defense held on with bodies flopping around in the crease with a loose puck. Both teams had eight shots in the period, and Elmira took a 1-0 lead into the final period.

The Jackals increased their lead to 2-0 at 3:37 after an Aces clearing attempt caromed off of skates, and led to an Andrew Sweetland goal. The Aces scored a shorthanded goal later in the frame, when Brian Swanson fed Wes Goldie on a two-on-one, and Goldie scored his 298th career ECHL goal at 9:18. The Aces pulled their goaltender in search of the equalizer, but could not find the game-tying goal, and Elmira held on for the 2-1 win.

Gerald Coleman (7-4-1) made 28 saves on 30 shots, taking the loss. Marco Cousineau (6-1-4) earned the win, with 20 saves on 21 shots. The Aces power play went 0-3, while the Jackals went 1-4. The Aces were outshot by the Jackals 30-21 in the game.

The Aces will continue their eight-game road trip with a Friday night rematch in Elmira. The game can be heard back in Anchorage on NewsTalk 750AM KFQD, beginning at 3:15pm. The Aces will return home to host the Victoria Salmon Kings on Wednesday, December 8th. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
