Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals (10-2-4-0) established a two-goal third-period lead and held on for a 2-1 victory over the Alaska Aces (9-5-1-0) on Wednesday night at First Arena, getting their 10th win of the season and reclaiming first place in the Eastern Conference.

Patrick Coulombe scored his fourth goal of the season at 16:15 of the second period on the power play for the game's first tally. Justin Donati's blue line shot caromed off the end boards and came to the left circle, and Coulombe chipped the puck past Aces netminder Gerald Coleman for the 1-0 Jackals lead.

In the third period, Yannick Tifu's right-circle shot was stopped by Coleman, but the rebound came directly to Andrew Sweetland who backhanded the puck into a gaping net for his eighth goal of the season at 3:37, giving Elmira a 2-0 advantage.

Wes Goldie's shot from the left circle with Alaska short handed soared over the glove of Elmira goaltender Marco Cousineau at 9:18 of the final period for the Aces' lone tally of the game.

Cousineau improved to 6-1-4-0 with his 20-save effort as the Jackals limited their opponent to just one goal for the second time this season. Coleman made 28 saves as he fell to 7-4-1-0 in 2010-2011.

Elmira is now 3-2 all-time against Western Conference teams. The game was the ECHL's first regular-season inter-conference meeting since January of 2009.
