Idaho Steelheads News Release

VICTORIA, British Columbia - The Idaho Steelheads won consecutive games for the first time since December 10th-11th (vs Las Vegas) with a 2-1 win over the Salmon Kings in Victoria tonight. Idaho controlled play for the first two periods, outshooting Victoria 29-12 after 40 minutes. The Salmon Kings registered 15 shots on goal in the third to the Steelheads' 5 attempts. For the game, Idaho outshot Victoria 34-27. Goalie Frank Doyle picked up his 18th win of the season.

Head coach John Olver said, "I'm elated to come up here and get two wins. I don't think the score was indicative of the play tonight; we should have won by 2 or 3."

After skating through a scoreless first period, Idaho's Brett Draney lit the lamp just :57 seconds into the second period. Warren Peters was credited with the helper as he fed Draney behind the net, and Draney wrapped around and tucked the puck past Victoria's netminder Dan Blackburn. Riley Riddell gave Idaho a two-goal lead 5:00 later, with his 5th of the season, as a delayed penalty was being called. The lead held until Victoria capitalized on the power play 10:00 later when Derek Campbell redirected a shot by Seth Leonard.

Victoria pulled its goalie in the final minute of play, giving the Salmon Kings a 5-on-4 advantage as both teams were playing with a man in the box. Doyle made a great save on Ryan Watson with :06 left, sending Idaho to a 2-1 victory.

Idaho travels to Las Vegas for games against the Wranglers Friday and Saturday night.
