Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Salmon Kings and the Idaho Steelheads played the final of a two game set at Bear Mountain Arena on Wednesday, and the Steelheads closed out the series with a 2-1 victory.

The Salmon Kings opened the game on their heels and took a solid forty minutes to get their legs under them. After playing the first twenty minutes in a scoreless draw, Idaho forward Brett Draney opened the scoring fifty-seven seconds into the second period.

The Steelheads stretched their lead when Dan Vandermeer and Bobby Russell set up Riley Riddell, and the Steelheads were ahead by two at the six minute mark of the second.

Head Coach Bryan Maxwell spent most of the first two periods being very vocal to his players on the bench and was finally able to squeeze a goal from his power-play, which has been quiet of late.

At 15:44 forward Derek Campbell tipped Seth Leonard's shot from the slot and the Salmon Kings trailed by one.

Victoria came out of the dressing room with spark in the third and outshot the Steelheads 15-5 in the final stanza, but could not beat Idaho goalie Frank Doyle and the Steelheads rode out the 2-1 victory.

The Salmon Kings get the next five days off before hosting the Fresno Falcons on Tuesday February 15, 2005 at the Bear Mountain Arena, game time is 7:00p.m. PST.

Tickets are available for all Salmon Kings home games at www.selectyourtickets.com or by phone at 250-220-7777.
