Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. – The Idaho Steelheads scored twice on the power play and once shorthanded as they defeated the Bakersfield Condors 3-2 in front of 5,047 fans at Centennial Garden on Saturday night. It's the sixth time the Steelheads have defeated the Condors by just one goal this season.

The Condors took the lead with Kevin Riehl's power play tally at 6:56 of the opening frame. Riehl has scored a goal in five consecutive games. Idaho scored their first power play goal of the night on their first opportunity, at 11:57 of the first period with Jan Kopecky's team-leading 18th goal of the season. The Steelheads led in first period shots 17-14.

In the second, the Steelheads took the lead with a power play goal from Jason Bateman. Darrel Hay picked up his second of three assists in the game on that goal. After 31 combined shots in the first period, the two teams managed just five shots apiece in the middle stanza.

At 2:26 of the third, Jason Ralph tied the game up with a rebound goal from the top of the crease for his 12th tally of the season, but the tie score didn't last. Just a few minutes later, while shorthanded, Ben Keup broke in on Condors netminder Shane Bendera and snapped home his fifth of the season to regain the lead for Idaho. Ralph appeared to score again less than a minute later, but his would-be second tying goal of the game came just a hair after the whistle had blown. It was as close as the Condors would get, and they fell to 1-4-2 against the Steelheads.

The Condors are back on home ice on Sunday evening, with a 5:00pm start against the Texas Wildcatters. That night is "Black Oil" Jersey Raffle and Auction Night, sponsored by K-Lite 105.3 and American Business Machines. The proceeds of the auction will benefit the Petroleum Shrine Club, and five jerseys will be raffled off during the game. All Condors games can be heard live on KGEO AM 1230, and online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com, with the "Voice of the Condors" Kevin Bartl handling the play-by-play. Tonight's game will be replayed on Bright House Networks Ch. 21 on Sunday morning at 10:00.

Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden box office, which opens at 10:00am Monday through Saturday, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location.
