Independence, MO (2/25/17)- After trailing 4-1 following the game's first 20 minutes, the Idaho Steelheads (30-18-7) rattled off four unanswered goals to earn a 5-4 win over the Missouri Mavericks (25-21-7) on Saturday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The win was Idaho's fourth victory in five games during their current eight game road trip, and their sixth win in the past eight games overall.

Jefferson Dahl gave the Steelheads their first lead at 7:29 of the third period with the eventual game-winning goal on the power play. Rob Linsmayer sent a puck from the side of the net across the goalmouth looking for Kellan Lain. Lain's stick was lifted off the ice, allowing the puck to go through to the back post for Dahl's second goal of the game and 16th of the season. [cid:image003.jpg

Down three goals to start the second period, Idaho's comeback effort began almost immediately. Brian Nugent's forecheck pressure below the goal line forced a turnover at 1:38, and Nugent fed Lain in front for his 11th goal of the season to make it a 4-2 game.

The Steelheads would score again at 10:08 of the second period on the power play. Already with the man-advantage, there was a delayed penalty upcoming on Missouri's Ryan Obuchowski. Branden Komm got to the bench for the extra skater, and the Steelheads capitalized on the 6-on-4 advantage with Anthony's Luciani's one-timer from the left circle that sailed over Josh Robinson's blocker to bring Idaho within a goal at 4-3.

The Steelheads' power play was 4-for-7 during the two-game set.

Brian Nugent tied the game with 33 seconds left in the second period with a wrist shot from the top of the right circle that beat Robinson blocker-side. Nugent's two-point night gives him three goals and five points in his last seven games.

The Mavericks scored the game's first three goals, with Dane Fox scoring his 23rd of the year from right in front of the net just 58 seconds into the game and Dan Correale netting his ninth of the year on a rebound off the end boards at 4:07 of the first. Reed Seckel netted his fifth goal of the season after a blocked shot rolled out to him between the circles at 9:06.

Dahl got Idaho on the board at 12:25 with a high-slot deflection of a Travis Walsh shot, one of Walsh's three assists in the game. Darren Nowick restored the three-goal Maverick lead 2:08 later with a redirection of his own for his 20th goal of the year.

Branden Komm made 30 saves for the Steelheads to improve his record to 12-11-3. The Steelheads improved their all-time record against the Mavericks to 2-2-0.

The Steelheads head to Rapid City to complete their road trip with three games against the Rush. The Steelheads are 4-3-0 this season against the Rush. The series begins on Wednesday night at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, with puck-drop scheduled for 6:35pm MT and the game available on 1350 KTIK and on ECHLTV.

COORS LIGHT OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE GAME Jefferson Dahl: 2 goals, 2 shots

PLAY OF THE GAME: Jefferson Dahl's power play goal to give Idaho its first lead, and ultimately win the game, was a break that went the Steelheads way after they fought back from a three-goal deficit. Rob Linsmayer's pass from the side of the goal was intended for Kellan Lain, which is why Lain drew the attention of Josh Robinson and the defender in front of the net. When the puck slid all the way to Dahl at the back post, he had a wide open net to beat a sprawling Robinson. Dahl came into the game with a nine game goal-scoring drought, but his tallies tonight began and capped the Steelheads comeback effort.
