Indy Fuel News Release
CINCINNATI - After losing to the Fort Wayne Komets at Indiana Farmers Coliseum Friday night, the Indy Fuel (15-35-2-2) were unable to bounce back Saturday evening at U.S. Bank Arena as they fell 3-2 to the Cincinnati Cyclones (28-24-4-0). The loss is the second of a three-game weekend, which concludes tomorrow evening at the Division-leading Toledo Walleye. Tonight's game marked the 11th of 12 meetings between the Fuel and the Cyclones, a season series currently controlled by Cincinnati 7-4-0-0. The final game this season between the two clubs will take place at Indiana Farmers Coliseum on April 2.
The Cyclones got on the board first after Forward Nick Huard stole a clearing attempt in Indy's defensive zone before assisting Tommy Mele for the Cyclones first period score. The Fuel received their best scoring chance of the period a few minutes later when Josh shalla sent the puck wide left on a breakaway opportunity. Cincinnati would score again in the second period to take a 2-0 lead after forward Justin MacDonald slapped the puck into the net off of a faceoff won by teammate Christian Minella. Four minutes later Indy's Tyler Barnes distanced himself from the Cyclones defense and connected on an off-balanced shot sent over the top of goaltender Michael Houser to halve the Cyclones lead.
Cincinnati's game-winning goal would come at the 7:40 mark in the third period when Frank Misuraca knocked a loose puck from the near wing circle past goaltender Eric Levine, giving the Cyclones a two-goal lead. Indy would score once more after Travis Armstrong connected on his first goal with the Indy Fuel, but it would not be enough to overcome the two-goal deficit. Both Indy and Cincinnati play again tomorrow, with Indy finishing the weekend out in Toledo and Cincinnati traveling to Kalamazoo. Indy's current streak is 0-2-0-0 while the Cyclones have won their past two. Indy will have a week off before returning home to host the Wheeling Nailers on Friday, March 3.
