MANCHESTER, N.H. - Two goals in the first period from Rihards Bukarts were not enough for the Manchester Monarchs, as they fell, 7-2, to the Alaska Aces on Sunday afternoon at SNHU Arena.

The Monarchs (30-15-6-4) fell to the Aces (27-18-2-6) in the final meeting between the two teams.

The Aces started the scoring in the first period on a power-play goal from Daniel Moynihan at 11:35 of the opening frame. Tim Coffman jammed the puck into the crease through the blocker of Monarchs goalie, Sam Brittan, and Moynihan lifted the loose puck over the sprawled goaltender for his 16th goal of the season.

The Monarchs tied the contest, 1-1, at 13:45 of the first period when Bukarts scored his 14th goal of the season. Cory Ward sent a shot on goal from the top of the crease that fell behind Aces goaltender, Kevin Carr, where Bukarts was waiting at the opposite post to tap the puck home.

Moynihan contributed to the score sheet again at 15:41 of the first period with his second goal of the night. Brad Navin sent a shot towards Brittain, but the puck fell behind the netminder and Moynihan tipped the loose puck into the goal to give the Aces a 2-1 lead.

Bukarts notched his second goal of the night to tie the game once again with just 15.8 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Kevin Morris threw the puck to the front of the net from behind the cage where Bukarts picked it up and wristed the puck into the empty net with Carr unable to recover, to make the score, 2-2.

The Aces took a 3-2 lead on a power-play goal from Coffman at 2:59 of the second period. Coffman received the puck from Tim Wallace at the right point and ripped a slapshot over the right shoulder of Brittain for his 20th goal of the season.

Mackenzie Stewart increased the Aces lead to 4-2 at 4:04 of the middle frame. Navin tossed a pass through the slot to Stewart where he one-timed a backhand between Brittain's glove and the post for his 4th goal of the season.

The Aces extended their lead to 5-2 on Coffman's second goal of the night at 15:58 of the second period. Carr threw the puck up the ice from his goal crease where Coffman gathered it at the blueline for a breakaway and roofed the puck over Brittain from the slot. That was the end of the night for Brittain, as Imoo entered the game.

The deficit continued to grow for the Monarchs when the Aces capitalized on a short-handed opportunity at 17:31 of the second period when Yan-Pawel Laplante made the score, 6-2, on his 6th goal of the season. Wallace caused a turnover in the neutral zone and got the puck to Laplante who raced into the offensive-zone on a breakaway and sent the puck past Imoo.

Coffman ended the scoring when he completed his hat trick at 6:57 of the final frame. Wallace sent a shot on goal that Imoo stopped, but the rebound kicked directly to Coffman who pushed home a backhander, to put the Aces up, 7-2.

The Monarchs are back on the ice Wednesday, Mar. 1 (7:05 p.m.) when they begin a three-game road trip with a game against the Elmira Jackals.
