Former K-Wing Evan McEneny Makes NHL Debut with Vancouver

KALAMAZOO, MI- Former Kalamazoo Wings defenseman Evan McEneny made his NHL debut with the Vancouver Canucks last night against the San Jose Sharks at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.

In his debut with the Canucks, McEneny logged 15:08 of ice time, fired one shot on goal and was a -1 rating during a 4-1 loss to San Jose.

McEneny, 22, appeared in 36 games last season with the Wings while on re-assignment and registered 25 points (one goal, 23 assists) and 19 penalty minutes.

The native of Hamilton, Ontario is a second-year pro and has appeared in 43 games with the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League this season, logging 17 points on six goals and eleven assists.

Before turning pro, McEneny spent five years in the Ontario Hockey League with the Kitchener Rangers and the Kingston Frontenacs. In 240 games in the OHL, the left-hand shooting defenseman tallied 127 career points on 22 goals and 105 assists. Though he went undrafted, McEneny was signed as a free agent by the Canucks in 2012.

With his appearance on Saturday, McEneny became the 617th former ECHL player in the league's 29-year history to make his debut. He is the 12th former Kalamazoo Wing to play in the NHL in the team's eight-year ECHL history.
