Brampton Steelheads News Release

North Bay, ON - Coming off an exciting come-from-behind win over the Kitchener Rangers yesterday, the Mississauga Steelheads looked to ride that momentum into Monday's game against the North Bay Battalion. Jack Flinn and Jake Smith were the starting goaltenders for the Thanksgiving Day matinee.

North Bay struck first as Zach Bratina pounced on a mishandled puck, beating Flinn blocker side just 48 seconds into the game. The Battalion kept Flinn busy with a number shots on net, but he was up for the challenge to keep the deficit at 1-0 nearing the midway point of the first. Ryan McLeod came close to evening the score with a wrap-around attempt but the puck came off a skate right into Smith's pads. After winning the draw, the Battalion quickly moved the play out of their zone as Brett Hargrave fed Austin Kosack, who faked a backhand and went top shelf on Flinn to give North Bay a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Shots on goal after the first tweny were 10-9 in favour of North Bay.

Liberati added to the Battalion's lead at 7:03 of the second period, moving to the top of the left circle and firing a shot past Flinn. Kyle Potts and Max Kislinger picked up the assists on Liberati's second of the season. Not slowing down, Bratina netted his second of the game to extend North Bay's lead to 4-0. Cameron Zanussi would then enter the game to relieve Flinn. Looking to bounce back, the Steelheads were sparked by another comeback attempt as Alex Nylander put Mississauga on the board at 19:08 of the middle frame. Ryan McLeod picked up his first OHL point on the play, feeding the puck in front of the net as Nylander came from behind Smith to finish it off and cut the Steelheads deficit 4-1. Shots on goal after two periods of play were 10-7 in favour of North Bay.

Similar to Sunday's game, Mississauga came out flying in the third. Looking to narrow the gap, the Steelheads worked hard to create a number of good chances. With time winding down in the frame, Daniel Muzito-Bagenda would bring the Steelheads within two with his third of the season from Michael McLeod. Looking to complete another comeback, Nylander fired the puck on net as Everett Clark was there to scoop up the rebound and sneak one past Smith to bring the Steelheads within one. Nicolas Hague picked up the other assist on Clark's fourth of the season. With just under two minutes to play and the draw inside the Battalion zone, Zanussi would head to the bench in favour of an extra attacker. Despite a number of huge chances, the Battalion held on as Bratina jumped on a loose puck and scored his third of the game on an empty net to seal a 5-3 win.

The Steelheads will have a few days of rest before they head across the border to visit the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday, October 18th.
