OHL Ottawa 67's

Steelheads One Better Than 67's, Friday Night

December 3, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Ottawa 67's News Release

Despite a brilliant performance by rookie goaltender Max Donoso in his second career OHL start, the Ottawa 67's weren't able to come away with a win in Mississauga. Aidan Prueter scored the lone goal in the first period, and the Steelheads downed the Barber Poles by a final score of 1-0.

Called into action in the second half of a back-to-back, Donoso looked like a seasoned pro in his second OHL appearance. The 18 year-old Windsor, Ontario native stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced, including some highlight reel saves on a few of the Steelheads' top players.

Donoso was the star of the first period, turning aside 16 shots, among them a series of high-danger chances off the rush. The Steelheads would need a powerplay, and a screen to beat him 11:09 in, when a Prueter point shot found its way to the back of the goal, giving Mississauga a 1-0 lead that they carried into the second frame.

Period two saw both teams trade chances, but both Donoso, and Steelheads netminder Joe Ranger remained flawless.

In the third, the 67's outshot Mississauga 11-7, and came agonizingly close to tying the game with Donoso on the bench for the extra attacker, but couldn't find the equalizer, and dropped a 1-0 decision.

Game Notes:

The 67's logged 22 shots on goal.

Cam Tolnai, Vinzenz Rohrer, and Alec Belanger were tied for the team lead with three shots apiece.

This was the third game of Ottawa's current four-game road swing.

Up Next: The Barber Poles cap off their road trip on Sunday, taking on the Kingston Frontenacs at 2:00pm EST.
