Boise, ID (2/11/17)- Anthony Luciani's first hat trick as an Idaho Steelhead (26-17-7) powered a five-goal outburst on Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena, as the Steelheads took the rubber-match of their three-game series against the Wheeling Nailers (25-17-5) with a 5-1 win in front of 5,119 fans in downtown Boise.
Luciani registered the Steelheads' first hat trick and first four-point game of the season, while newcomers Bryce Van Brabant and Aaron Harstad notched their first points as Steelheads.
Idaho scored all five goals after the 11 minute mark of the second period, with Luciani scoring twice in the second period to erase a one-goal deficit. Just 47 seconds after Gage Quinney had put the Nailers in front with his ninth goal of the season on a right circle wrist shot off the rush, Luciani would even the score with a shot from a sharp angle at 11:02.
Joe Faust sent a centering pass from the right-wing wall into the low slot that hit David Glen and came to Luciani below the left face-off dot. Luciani whistled a shot over Carr's shoulder to tie the game 1-1 with his 20th of the season.
At 16:38 of the second, Luciani struck again to put Idaho in front. Off a defensive zone face-off win, Brandon Anselmini flipped a puck out to center that was poked ahead by Bryce Van Brabant to a streaking Luciani. Luciani fired a wrist shot through Carr from the left wing to put Idaho in front 2-1.
Landon Bow made 30 saves to earn his tenth win of the season and his ninth in the past 11 appearances. Bow made several breakaway stops, including a shorthanded break by Cody Wydo in the second period to keep the Nailers at bay.
In the third period, Luciani again set up the play with a pass from the left-wing corner that found David Glen at the top of the left-wing circle for Glen's fifth goal of the season. With defenseman Charlie Dodero returning to the lineup for the first time in six games, David Glen moved from defense to forward for the first time since December 28th, a 17-game span. Glen responded with a two-point performance.
With the Steelheads ahead 3-1 and time winding down on the Nailers, Luciani closed the door. The lone forechecker, Luciani swooped behind the net and stripped the puck away from Christian Hilbrich before wrapping the puck to the front of the net for a wrist shot past Carr's glove and a 4-1 Idaho lead with 1:33 left in regulation. Luciani's 22nd of the season sealed his third career hat trick and first since January 15, 2014.
Van Brabant would get his first goal as a Steelhead off of another Wheeling turnover, intercepting a Kevin Schulze breakout pass with 56 seconds left and snapping a shot past Carr's blocker for a 5-1 lead.
The Steelheads grabbed four out of six points against the Nailers on home ice and now begin a stretch of eight consecutive road games with a three-game set in Utah against the Grizzlies next Friday at Maverik Center. The Steelheads and Grizzlies face off on Friday at 7pm MT, with the game available on 1350 KTIK and on ECHLTV.

PLAY OF THE GAME:
Anthony Luciani's hat trick goal was an impressive one-man effort, as he took on two Nailers players to force a turnover and finish the play himself. As the only forechecker on the play, Luciani first tried to grab the puck away from Ryan Segalla, but he was unsuccessful as Segalla reversed the puck behind the net to Christian Hilbrich. Luciani didn't give up, racing directly to Hilbrich and tearing the puck away from him behind the net before walking to the front and beating Carr to cap off his best statistical night as a Steelhead.
