Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Steelheads improved their league-leading record tonight to 38-10-4 with a 4-3 win against the Anchorage Aces before a sold out crowd at the Bank of America Centre. Five of the seven goals were scored on the power play, with Idaho going 3-7, and Anchorage converting 2-6 with a man advantage.

The Steelheads didn't even get a shot off on their first power play opportunity, but they made sure the second and third ones counted. Captain Jeremy Mylymok scored his 8th of the year on a pass from Dan Shermerhorn at 10:34 of the first period. Next, again with a one-man advantage, Jeff Shevalier made a nice pass out to Scott Swanson who fired a slapshot off at Aces netminder Ryan Person. Adam Copeland was there to tip it in to give the Steelheads a 2-0 lead. However, the Aces would close the gap to within one at 16:35 when Dean Larson scored a power play goal on a great set up from Yvan Corbin and Dave Csumrik.

With the Steelheads on the power play again, Shevalier tucked one in at 9:59 of the second period. Swanson and Adam Copeland each picked up their second points of the night on the tally. Then the Aces found themselves getting a break when Ben Keup was sent to the box on a double minor. With the man advantage, Larson got a pass over to B.J. Young who was wide open at the face off circle and scored on Idaho's Blair Allison at 11:11. The middle frame ended 3-2 in favor of the Steelheads.

Dan Shermerhorn scored the only even-strength goal of the night at 2:38 of the third period. Dampy Brar recorded his second assist on the tally, while the league-leader in assists Scott Swanson got his third of the game improving to 49 on the year. Anchorage put the pressure on late in the game with a flurry of shots, and though they came up with their third goal at 19:41 it wouldn't be enough. Ruslan Batyrshin scored his second goal of the year, a shorthanded goal assisted by B.J. Young and Ryan Moren to end the game 4-3 for Idaho.

The two teams meet again tomorrow night for the last of the three-game series at the Bank of America Centre. The first 2,500 fans through the doors will receive a Jeremy Mylymok mini bobble head. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
