Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads add an NHL draft pick, but are depleted of three forwards and a defenseman as the team's AHL affiliate Utah Grizzlies come calling.

Defenseman Luke Sellers, a former Ottawa 67's teammate of Idaho's Lance Galbraith and Jonathan Zion has signed a contract with the Steelheads. The three won the Ontario Hockey League's Memorial Cup with Ottawa in 2000. The 22-year-old Sellers was a Round 2, #30th overall 1999 NHL draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers, and played a game with them in the 2002-03 season. He also won the ECHL's Kelly Cup Championship in 2003 with the Greenville Growl in his professional rookie year. Sellers is not expected to be ready to play until mid-January due to off-season surgery.

Defenseman Peter Metcalf, as well as forwards Frank Lukes, Brett Draney and Justin Cox have all been recalled to Utah. Lukes is currently on a Phoenix Coyotes NHL contract and Metcalf is on an AHL Utah Grizzlies contract.

Idaho's head coach John Olver said Wednesday, "I look forward to adding Luke Sellers to our lineup. He's a winner and brings a history of winning championships. In the meantime, we're looking at all available options to strengthen our roster to compensate for the players who have been called up."

Idaho will travel to San Diego to play a three-game series against the Gulls this weekend - Friday, Saturday and Sunday, before returning home to face the Las Vegas Wranglers for two games on December 10th and 11th.
