Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Steelheads announced today they have completed a trade with the Florida Everblades that sends forward Jim Abbott to Idaho in exchange for future considerations.

Abbott, 24, was selected in the seventh round, 216th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He played four years with the University of New Hampshire, scoring 38 goals and 56 assists. Abbott entered into professional hockey last season, splitting his time between the ECHL's Toledo Storm and Pensacola Ice Pilots where he totaled 26 goals and 30 assists. To date this season, the Pennsylvania native has tallied a goal and four assists in 17 games played with Florida.

The Idaho Steelheads play two home games this weekend against the Las Vegas Wranglers. The two-game set marks the Wrangler's first visit to the Bank of America Centre since last season's controversial first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs. Idaho beat Las Vegas in Game 5 of the best-of-five series at the Orleans Arena on April 14th.

(Friday night is Big Brothers Big Sisters Night. Discounted tickets are being offered to big brothers and big sisters who wish to attend the game and Bigs and Littles will participate in between-riod events on the ice.)

(Saturday night is Toys For Tots Night. Toss a teddy bear onto the ice after the Steelheads score their first goal. Fans should bring a teddy bear to the game, or buy one on site from the Marine Corp and the booster club. All toys will be donated to local children in need.)
