Purinton Receives Six Game Suspension

December 9, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria Salmon Kings' defenceman Dale Purinton has been suspended for the next six Salmon Kings games. The 6'2", 229 lb native of Fort Wayne, Indiana will miss three games against Mississippi and three games against San Diego.

The suspension is a result of an incident that occurred in the Salmon Kings 5-2 win over the Bakersfield Condors Tuesday night at Bear Mountain Arena. Bakersfield forward Krzysztof Wieckowski fell awkwardly into the boards after a Purinton elbow knocked the player to the ice. Though Wieckowski left the ice on a stretcher and was admitted to hospital he was released later that evening and is presently being observed. Wieckowski was subsequently placed on the 30 day disabled list.

Rod Pasma, the ECHL's Vice President of Hockey Operations, determined that under Rule 53(b) – elbowing, that the league was forced to impose Supplemental Discipline in accordance with Rule 33A for what was referred to as a deliberate blow to the head. Additionally the proximity of the incident to the boards was also a factor in determining the length of the suspension.

Purinton will be eligible to return Friday December 31, 2004 in a game against Long Beach in Victoria.
