Steamer Named Curve's CFO Effective Immediately

CURVE, Pa. - Earlier today at PNG Field as part of the Altoona Curve's march to Opening Day, Steamer and GM Rob Egan held a press conference concerning Steamer's retirement announcement last week. At the event, Egan accepted Steamer's retirement letter but did ask if he could consider staying on as the team's CFO (Chief Fun Officer). Steamer gladly accepted this new role.

As part of his new duties with the team, Steamer will be responsible for directing and developing al mascot-related entertainment supplied by the team. He will be expected to tour other parts of the Eastern League, and the country, in search of the very best ideas to entertain Curve fans. This process will begin with Steamer's Last Ride Tour this season where he bids farewell to his day-to-day mascot duties at the conclusion of this season.

This Derek Jeter-esque tour will take him to 10 of the Eastern League's 11 other parks in 2015 as he sees his friends and faithful from across the circuit one last time. The dates and places for his tour date are as follows:

May 21 | Portland, Maine

May 22 | Manchester, N.H.

June 11 | Reading, Pa.

June 29 | Harrisburg, Pa.

June 30 | Trenton, N.J.

July 9 | Erie, Pa.

July 23 | Akron, Ohio

August 5 | New Britain, Conn.

August 14 | Richmond, Va.

August 23 | Bowie, Md.

"Steamer is not your typical mascot," said Curve General Manager Rob Egan, who remembers the quizzical fan response when the big, green mascot first appeared to fans at the Curve's inaugural game in Reading, PA in 1999. "He deserves to tour the Eastern League during this, his final season as the team's day-to-day mascot. We're thrilled the teams around the league are being so accommodating in bidding Steamer a fond farewell as he moves on to the next phase."

Steamer also reiterated in his statements today that he will be the team's every day mascot in 2015 and cannot wait to get the season underway.

The 17-year veteran mascot now turns his focus to preparing for tonight's home opener versus the Akron RubberDucks and also to his search for his replacement as the everyday mascot in 2016. He hinted it during today's conference that his replacement could be one of his current friends but did not rule out the possibility of other options.

The Curve open up their homestand tonight versus the Akron RubberDucks with first pitch at 6 p.m. and gates at 4 p.m.
