Akron RubberDucks News Release
Altoona's Eric Wood drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 11th inning, forcing home the winning run in a 2-1 victory over the Akron RubberDucks on Thursday evening at People's Natural Gas Field.
Turning Point
Down 1-0, with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, Akron first baseman Jake Lowery blasted an RBI triple to center field to tie the game at 1-1, and set the stage for extra-innings. In the bottom of the 11th, righthander Grant Sides (0-1) walked lead-off batter Max Moroff, who moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Josh Bell. After an intentional walk to Willy Garcia, Stetson Allie flied out to center for the second out, but Sides issued back-to-back walks to Edward Salcedo and Wood to end the game.
Mound Presence
Cody Anderson made his second start for Akron, and allowed just one run in six innings. He scattered seven hits, walked one and struck out four. The only blemish on his pitching line came when he allowed a leadoff walk to Bell in the fourth. Bell stole second, advanced to third on a hit, and scored on Salcedo's groundout. Anderson lowered his ERA to 1.46. Righthander Louis Head provided excellent relief for Akron (3-4), pitching two perfect innings of relief with five strikeouts. Jhondaniel Medina (1-0) earned the win for the Curve by hurling two scoreless innings.
Duck Tales
Todd Hankins and Yandy Diaz had two hits apiece for the RubberDucks, who left eight men on base. Hankins raised his average to .321.
