Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators allowed five runs from the sixth inning on as the Binghamton Mets distanced themselves in a 9-3 win over the Harrisburg Senators (3-5) Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium.
Adrian Sanchez began the night with a double and scored as Tony Renda extended his hit streak to eight games with an RBI single, staking Harrisburg starter Paolo Espino to a 1-0 lead. However, the Mets followed with three runs in the bottom of the first off Espino. Binghamton added a run in the second to take a 4-1 lead. Harrisburg responded in the fourth with a Matt Skole walk and a Ricky Hague double to get things started. Cole Leonida and Delta Cleary Jr. followed with sacrifice flies to cut Binghamton's lead to 4-3. Hague added another double later in the ball game to go 2-for-4. Espino also had two hits in two at-bats.
Espino finished with five innings pitched, in which he allowed four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. Derek Self struck out three batters in two innings of relief, but surrendered two runs on five hits. Gilberto Mendez allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits in the bottom of the eighth inning. The four earned runs allowed in three innings by Self and Mendez equaled the four earned runs allowed in the first 26 innings by Harrisburg's bullpen this season.
In tomorrow's second game of four, Tim Alderson will make his second start with the Senators. He'll face Binghamton's Gabriel Ynoa with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 6:50 p.m. on 1460 AM Fox Sports Harrisburg or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
