BROOKLYN, NY (September 5, 2015) - The Cyclones late season swoon continued with a 7-3 loss to the Staten Island Yankees at MCU Park on Saturday night. Brooklyn is now 3-9 in their last 12 games and 3-12 at MCU Park since August 1st. Brandon Brosher went 2-for-2 with an RBI and reached base in all four plate appearances to pace the Brooklyn offense.

Erik Manoah (0-1) was the emergency starter for Brooklyn on Saturday evening, after RHP Gaby Almonte was promoted to Savannah (A) of the South Atlantic League in preparation for their appearance in the South Atlantic League playoffs. Manoah, who went 1-4 with the Kingsport Mets this season, got off to a strong start for the Cyclones with a pair of scoreless frames but ran into trouble in the top of the third. Eduardo De Oleo started the frame with a booming double to left field and advanced to third on a 4-3 groundout. Zack Zehner took advantage of the scoring opportunity with an RBI single that gave the Baby Bombers an early lead. Jeff Hendrix followed with a bunt single that put runners on first and second. Ryan Krill then lofted a fly ball to right field for out number two, but Zehner was able to advance to third. With Kevin Cornelius batting, Hendrix swiped second base for his 16th steal of the year and then came around to score on a two-RBI single that made it 3-0.

The lead would be short-lived however, as Brooklyn rallied in the bottom of the frame. Alfredo Reyes worked a one out walk and Enmanuel Zabala singled to put a pair of runners aboard. After Desmond Lindsay struck out, Zach Mathieu continued his hot hitting with a line drive single inside the third base line that scored a pair and trimmed the Cyclones deficit to 3-2. Brandon Brosher followed with a booming triple that short hopped the wall in straight-away centerfield to score Mathieu and knot the score at 3-3.

But in the top of the fourth inning, Staten Island clawed right back and took a lead they would never relinquish. Zack Zehner, who finished the night 2-for-5, had a two-RBI single that made it 5-3 before Kyle Holder would come home on the back side of a double steal to push the Yankees lead to 6-3. The Baby Bombers tacked on another run in the sixth when Eduardo de Oleo tripled to start the frame and a relay throw to third from Alfredo Reyes bounced into the visiting team's dugout allowing the Yankees catcher to score and push their advantage to 7-3.

Nicco Blank pitched well out of the Brooklyn bullpen, allowing just a single hit over his 3.0 otherwise perfect innings to give the 'Clones a chance to come back. But the BKLYN bats weren't able to break through against Staten Island relievers Matt Borens and James Reeves who combined for 4.0 shutout innings of relief to close out the Staten Island victory.

The Cyclones will look to rebound on Sunday afternoon in the middle game of this three-game set, the final series of the 2015 season. RHP Raul Jacobson (0-0, 3.00) will take the mound for the Cyclones in hopes of spoiling the season for the Staten Island Yankees who will enter play on Sunday with just a ½ a game lead in the race for the McNamara Division crown.
