Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

The Scrappers fell to 1-4 in September after a 10-3 loss to West Virginia on Saturday night at Eastwood Field.

The Black Bears got off to a quick 3-0 lead against Kieran Lovegrove in the first. Mitchell Tolman led off with a single and later scored on a Ty Moore single to center. Christian Kelley scored on a Logan Hill fielders choice, and Moore scored on a sacrifice fly from Carlos Munoz.

West Virginia added a run in the third on a solo home run for Daniel Arribas, which was his third home run of the season.

The Black Bears got to Christian Meister in the fourth for four runs. Mitchell Tolman doubled to left to score Erik Forgione. Arribas walked in the inning to bring Tolman to the plate, and then a passed ball from Jack Goihl scored Kelley. Hill hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Moore.

Mahoning Valley got one run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-1 Black Bears. Mark Mathias doubled to left and later scored on an RBI single for Connor Marabell. The Scrappers got two more in the bottom of the sixth when Marabell grounded into a force out, but Ka'ai Tom and Mathias scored on the play and an error from Forgione.

West Virginia added two insurance runs in the eighth, but the Scrapper bats again had trouble stringing hits together at timely moments.

Lovegrove earns his eighth loss of the season, and finishes the 2015 season 1-8 with a 6.08 ERA. Meister was tagged for three earned runs on three hits in 3.2 innings, and Ryan Perez was hit for two earned runs in 1.1 innings.

The Scrappers have two remaining home games this season. They take on the Black Bears on Sunday at 4:05. Micah Miniard makes his second start of the season for Mahoning Valley.
