-SPIKES RETURN HOME FOR FOURTH OF JULY MATINEE: The State College Spikes come back to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park today to begin a three-game series against the Jamestown Jammers with a special afternoon contest. Today's game is the first day game the Spikes have played this year, and comes on the heels of a 2-1 road trip to Batavia that saw State College take sole possession of first place in the Pinckney Division. Jamestown, meanwhile, comes to Central PA after playing a 12-inning contest at home last night against Williamsport. The Spikes are 2-2 against the Jammers so far this year, with the road team winning every contest. All-time, State College is 41-43 against Jamestown, with a 19-22 home record.

-LAST NIGHT: Jake Stone homered and Rowan Wick drove in two more runs as the State College Spikes took an early lead and built from there to a 7-1 victory over the Batavia Muckdogs on Thursday night at Dwyer Stadium.

The win enabled State College to take sole possession of first place in the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division, breaking a tie with Batavia. The Spikes also ran their road record to 8-3 on the season, the best mark in the NYPL.

Stone's solo home run to right field off Muckdogs starter Jorgan Cavanerio gave State College a 4-1 lead, and Collin Radack delivered a two-run single in the same frame to extend the Spikes' lead to 6-1.

The Spikes also receive a strong pitching effort, with Daniel Poncedeleon, Trey Nielsen and Jeff Barkley each tossing three innings. The trio held the Muckdogs to four hits on the game, with the only run scoring on a double-play ball in the second inning. Nielsen earned the win and Barkley the save.

-SCHUMACHER TO MAKE START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Cody Schumacher gets his third start as a professional for the Spikes today. In his previous start, Schumacher went four innings and allowed one unearned run against Williamsport last Friday. The 36th-round draft choice of the Cardinals in 2014, Schumacher followed 2013 Spike Nick Petree as the winner of the Dave Dickensheet Award for Missouri State's Pitcher of the Year. The Topeka, KS native made his pro debut against the Jammers on June 21 at Russell Diethrick Park, going three innings and yielding two runs, one earned, on two hits and a walk.

-DUNCAN HEADS TO HILL FOR JAMMERS: Right-hander Frank Duncan makes the start for Jamestown today. Duncan has started three times for the Jammers so far, and went a career-long 4 2/3 innings against Mahoning Valley in his last start. Duncan allowed five runs on six hits and three walks in that start, and opposing hitters are batting .348 against him so far this year. The Pirates selected Duncan in the 13th round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of the University of Kansas, the same alma mater as the Spikes' Alex De Leon. Duncan posted a 2.58 ERA in 16 starts for the Jayhawks this past spring.

-WICK IT...WICK IT REAL GOOD : Rowan Wick grabbed more laurels to begin the 2014 season as he earned the St. Louis Cardinals Player of the Month award on Wednesday and set the Spikes' single-season home run record with his 11th homer later that night. . Wick has continued his torrid start the 2014 season, with at least one homer in every Spikes series this season. The North Vancouver, BC native is currently bidding for the NYPL's Triple Crown, as he is leading the league with 27 RBI, and his .415 batting average is second only to Connecticut's Michael Gerber.

-SPIKE MARKS: Andrew Sohn collected three hits for the Spikes last night, his first such performance as a pro...The Spikes will have played only three teams - Williamsport, Batavia and Jamestown - over the first 23 games of the season...Will Anderson is seventh in the New York-Penn League with a 1.06 ERA...Wick is homering once every 5.91 at-bats, while teammate Alex De Leon has a long ball once every 12.2 at-bats...The Spikes lead the league with 111 runs scored as a team, and their 2.61 team ERA is second in the NYPL...State College's +36 run differential is the largest in the league, followed by Connecticut's +17 mark
