Two Extra Inning Home Runs Doom Jammers

July 4, 2014 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN,NY - The Jamestown Jammers have shown fight and resilience all season long. Whenever they are behind, they always seem to make the outcome of the game interesting. Thursday night at Diethrick Park was no different. After being down 3-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth, Jamestown would rally to tie the score at 3, only to end up falling in 12 innings, 7-3 to the Williamsport Crosscutters.

Williamsport would jump out to an early 1-0 lead in the third inning. Catcher Wilson Garcia, and shortstop Emmanuel Marrero would begin the inning with consecutive singles. Both runners would then move up on a sac bunt by right fielder Cord Sandberg, to put runners on second and third with one out. Center fielder Aaron Brown would then hit a sacrifice fly, which would score Garcia.

The Crosscutters would then add another run in the fifth inning when Sandberg led off the inning with a double and later scored on a wild pitch, and in the seventh inning, when Brown would connect on an RBI single to make the score 3-0 in favor of Williamsport.

Jamestown would storm back in the bottom of the eighth. Second basemen Erik Lunde would start the rally with a lead-off single. Center fielder Carl Anderson then reached on an error, allowing Lunde to head to second. Designated hitter Micahel Fransoso then bunted both runners over. Left fielder Jordan Luplow would walk to load the bases. Right fielder Michael Suchy then grounded into a force out, which allowed Lunde to score, and the next batter, catcher Kevin Krause would walk to again load the bases. Third basemen Chase Simpson then came up with the big hit, a 2-run single to center field that would score Anderson and Suchy, and tie the score up at 3.

The score would remain deadlocked at 3, and the game would head to extra innings. Jamestown and Williamsport would exchange zeroes until the top of the 12th inning. In the top of the 12th, Williamsport exploded for four runs on a solo shot by Sandberg, and a 3-run home run by designated hitter Matt Shortall to go up 7-3.

That would be the final score as the Jammers couldn't manage to mount a rally in the bottom of the 12th.

On the offensive side for the Jammers, Simpson had three hits, and two RBIs. Jamestown starting pitcher, Montana DuRapau would work 4 1/3 innings, while only giving up one run. Jared Lakind, Julio Eusebio, and Sam Street combined to throw 5 2/3 scoreless innings out of the Jamestown bullpen, but unfortunately the Jammers couldn't muster up enough offense to secure the win.

The Jammers now hit the road for a five game road trip, which include three games against the State College Spikes, and two against the Batavia Muckdogs. The team will return home for a six game homestand that will begin Wednesday, July 9th against the Tri-City ValleyCats.
