Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Brooklyn, NY - The Aberdeen IronBirds took game one of a three game series against the Brooklyn Cyclones Friday night, beating the hosts by a score of 3-2.
Jamill Moquete got the scoring started in the top of the second inning off of Dillon Gee, a New York Met rehabbing with the Cyclones. Moquete doubled with two outs, and then scored when Federico Castagnini hit a single back up the middle, and it was 1-0 Aberdeen after two innings.
Brooklyn got on the board in the third, as Will Fulmer led off with a four pitch walk. After back-to-back strikeouts, Jhoan Urena came up and roped a double down the left field line, which was good enough to score Fulmer from first. The game was tied at one after three.
The pitchers would soon take over, and no one threatened until the eighth. Aberdeen led off with a double from Steve Wilkerson, who was moved over to third on a Riley Palmer ground out. Jay Gonzalez came up with one out and bounced one over the drawn in Cyclone infield to score Wilkerson, making it 2-1 Aberdeen.
The IronBirds weren't done in the inning, however. Gonzalez stole second and advanced to third on a Tomas Nido throwing error. He scored on an Oswill Lartiguez ground out, giving Aberdeen a 3-1 lead.
The IronBirds took that 3-1 lead to the ninth, but the Cyclones threatened almost immediately. After Michael Katz fouled out on the first pitch he saw, Michael Bernal singled, and that was followed by a pinch hit double from Jeff Diehl. With runners on second and third and one out, Nido hit a chopper to third that scored Bernal and advanced Diehl to third. However, the next batter, Joe Tuschak, flied out to Moquete in left to end the game.
Tanner Chleborad got the start for Aberdeen. He went two innings, allowed just two hits and a walk, ringing up one strikeout. Josh Walker relieved him and pitched two innings of his own. He allowed one hit, one run (earned), walked one, and struck out four. Bennett Parry came on in the fifth and pitched the remaining four innings to earn his first win of the season. He allowed five hits and one run, striking out six.
The IronBirds will take on the Cyclones in game two of this three game series tomorrow at 6 p.m.
