-SPIKES ONE WIN AWAY FROM DIVISION TITLE: The State College Spikes can capture a second consecutive New York-Penn League Pinckney Division title with a victory over the Jamestown Jammers tonight in the second game of a three-game series at Russell Diethrick Park. The Spikes are currently nine games up on the Jammers with 10 games remaining on their regular-season slate, and would be the first NYPL team to clinch a playoff berth with a win. State College will head to Mahoning Valley on Monday and Tuesday to complete a five-game road swing. The Spikes are 6-2 against the Jammers this year, including a two-game sweep at Russell Diethrick Park in June. All-time, State College is 45-43 against Jamestown, with a 23-21 record at Russell Diethrick Park.

-LAST GAME: Danny Diekroeger extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a three-hit night, and the State College Spikes lowered their magic number for a New York-Penn League Pinckney Division crown to one with an 8-0 victory over the Jamestown Jammers on Friday night at Russell Diethrick Park.

Diekroeger helped lead a State College offensive attack that broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning. The Stanford product delivered an RBI triple in the fifth inning, then singled in the sixth and scored to keep the frame going.

Chase Raffield and Jake Stone both provided run-scoring doubles for the Spikes in the sixth, while Jhohan Acevedo delivered a single to score the first run of the inning, then stole two bases before scoring one of his two runs.

The Spikes' offensive efforts bolstered another strong performance from the State College pitching staff, which notched its fifth combined shutout of the year and struck out a total of 15 batters. Daniel Poncedeleon struck out a career-high eight batters over five innings of work, and yielded four hits and two walks as part of his first professional win as a starter.

-NYPL ALL-STAR ANDERSON ON MOUND FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Will Anderson makes his 11th start of the year for the Spikes tonight, and his first since pitching a perfect second inning in the New York-Penn League All-Star Game on Tuesday night in Brooklyn. Anderson is currently third in the NYPL in ERA with his 2.31 mark, and allowed just two runs on five hits over seven innings against Jamestown for the win on July 6. In his last regular-season start on August 12, Anderson yielded four runs, two of them earned, on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven over 5 2/3 innings in a loss against Mahoning Valley. The 2013 26th-round draft choice had won his last five straight decisions before that defeat.

-JAMMERS CHOOSE COLEY FOR START: Right-hander Austin Coley makes his seventh start for Jamestown in tonight's game. Coley, the Pirates' eighth-round draft choice out of Belmont in 2014, was on the shelf from June 22 to July 31, but has put up a 2.38 ERA over 11 1/3 innings since his return to the rotation. The Nashville, TN native allowed one run on four hits while striking out five over 3 2/3 innings against Batavia in his last start this past Sunday. Coley has struck out five batters in each of his last two outings, and has walked just one batter over his last 9 1/3 innings.

-SPIKES MAKE GOOD SHOWING AT NYPL ALL-STAR GAME: State College Spikes pitchers Will Anderson and Kyle Grana each tossed a scoreless inning on the mound for the South squad, and Spikes infielders Robelys Reyes and Darren Seferina each made contributions, but the New York-Penn League All-Star Game finished in a 1-1 tie on Tuesday night at MCU Park. Anderson recorded three straight groundouts in the second, while Grana allowed a hit and a walk, but no runs, in the eighth. Reyes went 0-for-2 after finishing the game at shortstop, while Seferina came on as a pinch-runner in the ninth and stole a base, but was stranded at third to end the exhibition contest.

-SPIKES, CARDINALS EXTEND PDC THROUGH 2016: The State College Spikes have announced a two-year extension of their Player Development Contract (PDC) with the defending National League champion St. Louis Cardinals. The extension maintains the affiliation between the Spikes and Cardinals through the 2016 New York-Penn League season.

-SPIKE MARKS: The Spikes lead Tri-City with 51 homers to 42 and 348 runs scored to 327, but trail in team batting average, .2701 to .2697...State College's +108 run differential is the best in the league, with Tri-City next at +63...Kyle Grana's 13.37 strikeouts per nine innings are the second-most among NYPL relievers, and his 53 total whiffs are tied for fifth-most in the league...Darren Seferina is now sixth in the NYPL in batting average at .307...Danny Diekroeger's 16-game hit streak has now surpassed Jake Stone's 14-game string in July for the longest by a Spike this season...The Spikes clinched their 2013 division title on August 31 in Auburn, with four games remaining in the season...State College has not been out of first place in the division since July 1
