BURLINGTON, VT --- Three Yankee pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout with no walks and 12 strikeouts as Staten Island evened the three-game series against the Vermont Lake Monsters with a 5-0 victory in New York-Penn League action Saturday night at historic Centennial Field.

Staten Island starter Jordan Foley retired all 12 Vermont batters he faced, including five by strikeout, over his four innings of work. Reliever Jordan Montgomery retired the first two Lake Monsters in the fifth inning before allowing a Trent Gilbert line drive single to center for Vermont's first baserunner of the game and its first hit in 10 innings off Staten Island pitching since a third-inning single in Friday's 3-1 Lake Monsters win.

Montgomery (1-0) retired the final four batters that he faced after the Gilbert single and Tim Giel set down the first six Vermont hitters he faced until giving up a Ben McQuown leadoff double in the ninth. Giel then retired the next three Lake Monsters to complete the two-hit shutout and pick up his third save of the season for Staten Island (33-33). It was the sixth time this season that Vermont has been shutout and 5th time at Centennial, including a pair of two-hitters and a one-hitter.

The Yankees got on the scoreboard in the second on a Nathan Mikolas two-run single and added another run in the third on a Ty McFarland solo homer off Lake Monsters starter Cristhian Perez (2-4), who allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts in three innings. After Tyler Hollstegge struckout the side in the fourth inning, Jose Torres tossed the final five frames and allowed two unearned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts (the most by a Vermont reliever this season).

Vermont (29-38) will wrap up the homestand with the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday beginning at 5:05 pm. It is the final "Hot Dog Heaven" of the season with 25-cent hot dogs courtesy of McKenzie's and also a special appearance at the ballpark by Captain Richard Phillips.
