Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, NY - The State College Spikes brought their best game to Diethrick Park again Saturday night. State College reached double digits in hits for the second night in a row, with 10, and utilized solid pitching en route to a 7-3 victory over the Jamestown Jammers. The Spikes clinched the Pinckney division with their win, and increased their overall record to 41-26. The Jammers fell to 30-35 on the season, and they still find themselves six games behind the Brooklyn Cyclones in the New York-Penn League Wild Card standings.
State College jumped on the board in the top of the first inning against Jammer starter Austin Coley. An RBI double from right fielder Nick Thompson, and an RBI single from shortstop Robelys Reyes did the damage in the inning to put the Spikes ahead 2-0. Coley struggled from the get-go for the Jammers, and walked two in just one inning of work.
Jose Regalado would come on in relief of Coley in the top of the second, but would unfortunately fall victim to the State College offense in the top of the third. A 3-run home run from first basemen Jake Stone would be the devastating blow in the inning. In the top of the fourth, the Spikes would get to Regalado for two more runs via a 2-RBI double from Stone, who had two hits and five RBIs on the night.
Jerry Mulderig would relieve Regalado in the fifth inning for the Jammers, and he would pretty much right the ship after the Spikes had a 7-0 lead after four innings of play. In three innings of work, Mulderig would only surrender one hit, and strike out two. Julio Eusebio would pitch the final two innings for Jamestown, and he also looked good on the mound. He would only surrender one hit, while striking out one. The performance of Mulderig, and Eusebio out of the bullpen for the Jammers is certainly an encouraging sign.
The Jammers did show some fight in the latter innings, and managed to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Third basemen Francisco Aponte had a 2-RBI double in the inning, and catcher Deybi Garcia would connect on an RBI double of his own in the inning as well. The Jammers couldn't manage to pull any closer however, and would end up falling to the Spikes for the second consecutive night. Designated hitter. Chase Simpson picked up two hits on the night, including a double, and Aponte picked up two hits on the evening to match Simpson.
The Jammers and Spikes will conclude their three game series Sunday afternoon at Diethrick Park. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05pm. Tyler Epper, the right-handed pitcher from Navasota, Texas will toe the rubber for the Jammers. He will be opposed by right-handed pitcher Fernando Baez of the Spikes.
