Stars Win Overtime Thriller, 2-1

Sioux Falls, S.D. - Patrik Virtanen made 35 saves as the Stars beat the Sioux Falls Stampede, 2-1, in overtime in Sioux Falls on Thursday night.

Neither team scored in the first period, leaving it 0-0 with the help of Virtanen's breakaway glove save with 4.9 seconds left in the period.

The second period yielded a few chances each way, but the goalies held strong and kept it scoreless after 40 minutes.

Ludvig Hoff broke the tie at 4:34 of the third period, beating Stampede goalie Stefanos Lekkas with a slap shot from 60 feet away for his his 10th goal of the season.

The 1-0 lead would hold until 17:43 of the period when Jack Suter streaked down the left wing side and beat Virtanen to the blocker side.

Grant Jozefek scored the game winner for the Stars at 3:56 of overtime, giving them their first win on New Year's Eve in six seasons. The goal was unassisted and Jozefek's second overtime winner of the season.
