Week 5 Recap:

The Texas Stars began their second three-in-three weekend with a disappointing 3-0 home loss to the Toronto Marlies, but rallied for a thrilling shootout loss at home to the Lake Erie Monsters and then a strong road victory over the Houston Aeros to take three points out of a possible six on the week.

The Stars began the long weekend with the Toronto Marlies, who made their only visit to Cedar Park this season. Texas bombarded the Marlies net all night long, out-shooting Toronto 31-17, but were stymied by goaltender Jussi Rynnas, who denied everything sent his way en route to a 3-0 shutout.

Saturday the Stars again had trouble turning shots to goals as they faced the Lake Erie Monsters. Texas out-shot Lake Erie 21-4 in the first period, but the scoreboard read 1-1 after twenty minutes. The teams were tied at 2-2 going into the third period, only for the Monsters to score twice in the span of 14 seconds to open up a 4-2 lead. The Stars circled the wagons and mounted one of the most dramatic third period comebacks in team history. With goalie Jack Campbell pulled for an extra attacker Cody Eakin cut the lead to one with 2:03 left to play. With 64 seconds left in regulation a Monsters boarding penalty gave Texas a late power play and with Campbell pulled once again, Matt Fraser's collected a rebound off the end boards and fired a backhand through the pads of Lake Erie goalie Calvin Pickard to tie the game with less than one second left on the game clock and sending the home fans into a frenzy. Texas nearly won the game in overtime when captain Maxime Fortunus rang a shot off the left goal post. The Monsters then dominated the shootout to claim the victory, but the Stars built confidence from their second comeback from two-goals down in the third period this season.

On Sunday the Stars rode into Houston and outworked their hosts, even though the Aeros had Saturday off to rest up for the game. Cody Eakin and Tomas Vincour each scored goals in the first nine minutes of the opening frame and after the Aeros cut the lead to 2-1, Travis Morin made it 3-1 with a tip-in goal that redirected off of his stick and then off the goaltender's face mask and into the net. Houston scored their second goal midway through the middle period to make it 3-2. Antoine Roussel answered back a mere 2:19 into the third period, assisted by Luke Gazdic and Scott Glennie and goaltender Cristopher Nilstorp finished with 26 saves on 28 shots to record his second win of the season.

Week 6 Preview:

Texas has two home games at Cedar Park Center on the docket this week as they host the San Antonio Rampage on Thursday, November 15th at 7:30 p.m. and the first place Charlotte Checkers on Saturday, November 17th at 7:00 p.m. The Stars have faced these South Division rivals once each so far this season and will be looking for some crucial points to climb up the standings. This will be the first regular season visit by San Antonio this year and the second of four trips to Cedar Park by Charlotte.

Thursday's game is the 2nd Annual H-E-B Food Drive night where the team will be collecting non-perishable food items and the fan who makes the largest single donation will win a Texas Stars suite night. Saturday is the 4th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Night and all the stuffed animals will be thrown on the ice when the Stars score their first goal against the Checkers. Thursday, November 15 - 7:30 pm - Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park, TX

vs. San Antonio Rampage (4-6-0-1, 9 pts)

Tied-Fourth Place, South Division

Team Notes: The Rampage are on a run of lost two-won two-lost two and are 2-4-0-1 in their last seven games. San Antonio had just one game last week, losing at home to Toronto 5-3 on November 10th. This week the Rampage had a morning game on Tuesday, November 13th, falling at home to the Houston Aeros 7-5. In the middle of four games in six days this week, San Antonio will play the Stars on Thursday, and then host Charlotte of Friday and Sunday at AT&T Center. The Rampage are ranked 18th in the AHL in power play percentage (15.7%), but have a very strong penalty kill that is 9th in the league (87.7%). Leading goal scorer Jon Rheault is tied for the AHL lead with two shorthanded goals, tied with Stars forward Cody Eakin, Manchester's Andrei Loktionov and Oklahoma City's Justin Schultz.Leading Scorer: Drew Shore (C) - 9 points (2 goals, 7 assists) and 8 PIMs in 11 GP.Leading Goaltender: Dov Grumet-Morris (G) - 2.16 GAA, 0.929 save pct., 2-3-1 and 2 SO in 6 GP.Who's Hot: Jon Rheault (RW) - Leads the team in goals, is second in points and has six points (5 goals, 1 assist) and a +3 rating in his last four games played. vs. Charlotte Checkers (9-3-0-1, 19 pts)

First Place, South Division

Team Notes: The Charlotte Checkers enter the week with a two-game winning streak and have gone 6-2-0-0 in their last eight games; they also have not lost back-to-back games this season. The Checkers have the #1 ranked offense in the AHL, scoring an average of 3.85 goals per game and are fifth in the league in defense (2.46 goals per game). Charlotte lost to Texas 4-3 in a shootout during the Stars home opener on October 14th. The Checkers are ranked 2nd in the AHL in shots per game (33.46), while the Stars are 2nd in the league in fewest shots allowed per game (25.00). Drayson Bowman is tied for the AHL lead in goals (10), Justin Faulk is tied for second in the AHL in assists (11), Jerome Samson is tied for the league lead in shots (46) and Zach Boychuk is fourth in shots (44). Boychuk and Justin Faulk are tied for the team lead and rank 4th in the AHL in points.Leading Scorer: Zach Boychuk (LW) - 14 points (9 goals, 5 assists) and +1 in 13 GP & Justin Faulk (D) - 14 points (3 goals, 11 assists) and +6 in 11 GP.Leading Goaltender: Chris Terry (LW) - Is currently on a six game point streak and has eight points (6 goals, 2 assists) and a +6 rating over that span. Stars Player of the Week: (Week 5)

Tomas Vincour - RW - #17 3 GP, 3 points (2 G, 1 A), +1, 4 PIMs

Right wing Tomas Vincour played a major role in helping the Texas Stars secure three points in Week 5. After being blanked on home ice by Toronto on Friday, Vincour had a two-point night on Saturday during a 5-4 shootout loss to the Lake Erie Monsters. Then on Sunday in Houston the Brno, Czech Republic native scored his third goal of the season as part of a three-goal first period for the Stars in a 4-2 road win over the Aeros. Vincour is on a two-game point and goal streak, he leads the team in assists (6) and shares the team lead in points (9).

STARS NOTABLES: WEEK 5

- NEW FRANCHISE RECORDS - The Stars set a new franchise record for most shots on goal in a game on Saturday vs. Lake Erie as they unleashed 49 shots on the Monsters net. They also tied the franchise mark for most shots in one period by firing 21 on goal in the first period; that feat was first accomplished in the third period on October 25, 2011 at Rockford. Texas also set a season high Saturday for most combined shots for both teams (76).

- SPECIAL TEAMS REBOUND - After struggling in their first nine games of the season, Texas special teams did an about-face over the weekend. The Stars went 3-for-13 (23.1%) on the power play and their penalty kill went 9-for-10 (90.0%) combined between Saturday's home shootout loss to Lake Erie and Sunday's road win at Houston.

- FIRST GOALS - Texas scored the first goal of the game on Sunday at Houston on their way to a 4-2 win over the Aeros at Toyota Center. It was just the third time in eleven games this year where the Stars have scored first; they are a perfect 3-0-0-0 in those games.

- POINTS ON TWO CONTINENTS - Swedish goaltender Cristopher Nilstorp had the second assist on Cody Eakin's first period power play goal on Sunday at Houston. It was Nilstorp's first career assist in North America.

- DID HE CALL MASK? - Stars center Travis Morin scored the game-winning goal on Sunday at Houston at 15:34 of the first period in a 4-2 victory over the Aeros. Morin tipped a Jamie Oleksiak shot and the puck then redirected off the face mask of Houston goalie Darcy Kuemper and into the net, for an unusual, but effective ricochet.

- CENTURY CLUB - Defenseman Cam Barker tallied three assists on Saturday night vs. Lake Erie, including the primary helper on the game-tying buzzer beating goal by Matt Fraser; it the highest single-game assist total by a Stars player this year. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native then notched another assist on Sunday at Houston. That assist, a long two-zone pass that set up Cody Eakin's first period power play goal, was Barker's 100th career professional assist; he has 27 assists in the AHL and 73 in the NHL.
