
Abbotsford Hands Monsters First Shutout of Season

Rookie goalie Sami Aittokallio turned away 36 of 37 shots, but the Lake Erie Monsters (9-5-0-0) were shut out for the first time this season, falling 3-0 to the Abbotsford Heat (8-1-1-2) in British Columbia on Tuesday night. The game was the sixth in a season-long seven-game road swing for the Monsters. The trip will wrap up in Abbotsford on Wednesday when the Monsters and Heat meet again.
Krys Kolanos scored the lone goal of the game against Aittokallio, with a high snapshot from the right circle at 12:52 of the second period.
Abbotsford added a pair of empty-net goals (Sven Baertschi, Quintin Laing) in the final minutes of the game to seal the win.
Aittokallio (4-2-0) stopped 36 of 37 shots in net. Abbotsford goalie Barry Brust stopped all 29 Monsters shots he saw in the game, earning his second shutout in three starts this season.
The Monsters and Heat play again Wednesday night, with the top spot in the North Division back up for grabs. All the action can be heard live on ESPN 850 WKNR beginning at 10:00 PM Eastern.
NOTES: The Monsters are now 4-2-0-0 through six games on their current season-long seven-game road trip... The Monsters were looking for their third three-game win streak of the season Tuesday night... The Monsters were 0-3 on the power play against Abbotsford's top-ranked penalty killing unit... Luke Walker's four-game point streak and Mark Olver's three-game assist streaks came to a close in the loss... Abbotsford's second-ranked power play unit was 0-3 in the game... The Monsters are now 7-3-0-0 on the road this season, and are now 1-2-0-0 against Abbotsford on the campaign.
