Abbotsford, BC - The Abbotsford Heat downed the Lake Erie Monsters 3-0 Tuesday night at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, extending their home point streak to nine games, and moving into top spot in the Western Conference.
Barry Brust earned his second shutout in three starts this season, and Krys Kolanos became the all-time leading goal scorer in Heat history recording his 34th goal in just 55 games.
Abbotsford opened the scoring at 12:52 of the second period when Krys Kolanos scored his fourth of the season, set up by T.J. Brodie and Joe Piskula.
In the third period, with the Monsters looking to tie the game, Sven Baertschi added an empty-net goal at 18:52, with assists given to Brett Olson and Barry Brust.
Less than a minute later, Quintin Laing scored the Heat's second empty net goal of the night at 19:38 of the 3rd period.
The Heat negated all three Monster power plays, and were held scoreless with the man advantage on three attempts of their own.
Barry Brust stopped 29 shots and has now gone 171:41 without allowing a goal. The Heat outshot the Monsters 39 to 29.
