Hoover, AL - Wily Peralta tossed seven scoreless innings as the Huntsville Stars (14-17, 51-50) stymied the Birmingham Barons (13-18, 53-48), 4-0, in front of 3,250 fans Tuesday night at Regions Park.

The Stars rocketed to an early 3-0 lead in the third inning when Sean Halton and Erik Komatsu each drew walks before Brock Kjeldgaard lined a RBI single that knocked home Halton and forced Komatsu to third base. With runners on the corners, Martin Maldanado drew a walk that loaded the bases for Khris Davis, who reached on a fielding error by Barons third baseman Jake Oester and plated Komatsu. The third run of the inning was scored when a walk issued to Hainley Statia forced in Kjeldgaard from third.

Huntsville tacked on two runs in the ninth inning when Sergio Miranda reached on a throwing error by Barons shortstop Greg Paiml and dashed to second on Zelous Wheeler's single to center field. Komatsu added a RBI double to left field that plated Miranda and bumped Wheeler to third. Wheeler would score on a groundout that would give the Stars a five-run edge, 5-0.

The Barons added two runs in the bottom of the ninth when Justin Greene singled to right field, advanced to second on a balk called on Stars reliever Robert Wooten and scored on Luis Sierra's RBI triple off the right-field wall. Paiml added a RBI single up the middle that delivered Sierra for the game's final run, 5-2.

Peralta (8-6) earned the win for the Stars after the righty tossed 7.0 scoreless IP with 4 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Nevin Griffith (5-7) received the loss for the Barons as the right-hander yielded three runs (one earned) on 2 hits, 8 walks and 2 strikeouts in 3.1 IP.

Birmingham and Huntsville tackle game two of the five-game series Wednesday night, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. at Regions Park. The Barons will send left-handed pitcher Hector Santiago (4-2, 4.74) to the bump while the Stars turn to right-hander Kyle Heckalhorn (0-0, 3.63).
