Jackson Generals News Release
CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (JULY 26, 2011) - Hector Gimenez's 3-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning powered the Lookouts by the Generals, 4-2 in the opener of a five-game series at AT&T Field in Chattanooga. The Generals lead for the first five frames, and out-hit Chattanooga 9-5, but stranded 10 runners on the base paths. The Generals have dropped three straight and fell to below .500 (50-51) on the season for the first time since April 28th.
General's starter James Paxton held the Lookouts hitless for the first 4.2 innings, but ended the night with a no decision in his fourth Double-A start. Paxton struck out eight and walked two, surrendering two runs and three hits over 5.1 innings. Michael Antonini (9-8) received the win for Chattanooga, giving up just two runs (one earned) in six innings on the mound. Josh Lindblom saved his 16th game of the season for the Lookouts. Taylor Stanton (1-4) took the loss, allowing two runs, including the homer to Gimenez in the sixth inning.
Scott Savastano was 3-for-5, including a double and an RBI Tuesday night and Rich Poythress also ended the night with three hits, going 3-for-4. Vinnie Catricala recorded his 12th multi-hit game in just 23 total games since coming up from High Desert, finishing 2-for-4, with a double and RBI.
The Generals scored first in the top of the third inning after stranding four runners in the first two frames. Vinnie Catricala doubled home Carlos Triunfel in the third to put Jackson up 1-0, then Scott Savastano doubled in Leury Bonilla in the top of the fourth to give Jackson a 2-0 advantage.
The Lookouts broke out for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning that included a 3-run home run by Hector Gimenez. Following the homer, the benches cleared but no punches were thrown and no ejections were issued. Alfredo Silverio picked up an RBI single in the inning as well and Chattanooga went ahead 4-2, which was the final.
The Generals continue their five-game series on Wednesday morning against the Chattanooga Lookouts. Game time is set for 10:15 am CDT.
