HUNTSVILLE -- The Huntsville Stars again drowned the Biscuits in a flood of offense at Joe W. Davis Stadium Thursday night, sealing the series with an 11-4 win.
The Biscuits led the game 4-0 halfway through, but the Stars' offensive powder keg exploded in the fifth through seventh innings.
Biscuits starter Jon Barratt, who had pitched four scoreless innings, experienced control problems in the fifth. After he allowed a leadoff single, he walked three straight hitters, walking in the Stars' first run of the game. Richard De Los Santos came in to diffuse the threat. He got an immediate double play but then allowed a double by Lou Palmisano that brough the Stars to within one. Barratt allowed three runs on four hits in his four innings, walking six and striking out six.
De Los Santos allowed five more runs (three earned) in the following inning, and Evan Meek allowed three more in the eighth.
The Biscuits had built their lead with three runs in the second inning, scoring on Gaby Martinez and Josh Asanovich singles and a bases-loaded double play. Asanovich singled in another run in the fifth.
The final game of the series is Friday night at 7:05. Montgomery lefty Mike Prochaska is on the mound.
NOTES
The Stars' 42 runs in this series are already by far the most the Biscuits have ever allowed to an opponent in a series. The previous high was 34, to the Chattanooga Lookouts in May, 2004 ... The Biscuits' bullpen has been woeful over the past seven games, allowing 34 earned runs in 22 innings (13.91 ERA).
