Kroeger Belts Two-Run Homerun

Jackson, TN- Josh Kroeger belted a two-run homerun in the top of the first as part of a 3-for-4 night.

The Smokies added two more runs in the second. Matt Craig (3-for-4) led off the inning with his first of two doubles in the game. Jemel Spearman rolled a slow grounder to third for a hit and the Diamond Jaxx third baseman Matt Tuiasosopo made a wide throw to first. The error allowed Craig to score then Spearman crossed home on a groundout making it 4-0.

Sean Gallagher was dominant in the start pitching seven innings and yielding only one run. He allowed only three hits and a walk to improve to 7-2 on the season. Gallagher fanned nine and retired the side in order four of seven innings he worked.

The Smokies win coupled with a 4-2 Huntsville victory over Montgomery keeps them tied for first in the Southern League North. The two don't play anymore games with each other in the first half and have fifteen remaining.

The Smokies will be back at Smokies Park Saturday Night to play Birmingham. Myron Noodleman will be on hand for entertainment and Fireworks after the game. Gates open at 5:30 while the first pitch is scheduled for 7:15. Justin Berg (2-2) will start for Tennessee while Kris Honel (2-2) will pitch for the Barons.
