Stars Protect Lead, Beat Black Hawks 3-2

Lincoln, Neb. - After defending a late surge, the Lincoln Stars earned 3-2 win against the Waterloo Black Hawks in the Ice Box on Tuesday night.

Lincoln opened the scoring at 9:17 of the opening period with Will D'Orsi's shot from the left circle. Grant Jozefek and Christian Evers picked up assists on the play.

Waterloo evened the score with less than two minutes remaining in the period when Shane Bowers beat Stars goalie Patrik Virtanen with a wrist shot from the high slot.

The teams carried a 1-1 tie into the first intermission.

David Cotton made it 2-1 for the Black Hawks at 6:41 of the second period with a power play goal.

The Stars responded with a power play goal from Christian Evers and an even-strength tally from Joachim Weberg to make it 3-2 after 40 minutes.

The one-goal lead would hold for the third period.

Virtanen finished with 24 saves.
