Stars' Late Basket Puts Team Past Vipers

EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (19-14), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, fell 117-116 against the Salt Lake City Stars (20-13) on Friday night at Bert Ogden Arena.
Salt Lake tipped-off the quarter by taking control of the game, but RGV tied it at 18-18 with 5:41 to go. The Stars responded by going on an 11-0 run and took back a 29-18 lead. Salt Lake closed off the quarter with a score of 36-27.
As soon as Salt Lake started pulling away the Vipers would inch in closer. At the half RGV had a five-point deficit which resulted in a 58-53 game.
In the third quarter RGV turned things around. At 10:07 the team tied the game 58-58. The Vipers then took its first lead of the game, but not for long as Salt Lake took control once again. A few minutes later the home team grabbed the upper hand and ran with it until 5:36 when the Stars tied it at 70-70. Every time the Vipers pulled away, the Stars would come back and tie the game. However, with less than 30 seconds to go the Vipers took over 88-85.
RGV dominated the majority of the fourth quarter, but Salt Lake tied the quarter three times. The final tie was at 116-116 with less than 30 seconds to go. Salt Lake then went on to score one more point and closed the game with a 117-116 victory.
Jarrett Culver led the Vipers with 25 points. Darius Days had 20 points. Ray Spalding had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Taevieon Kinsey, Utah Jazz assignee Kenneth Lofton Jr. and Utah Jazz assignee Darius Bazley had 21 points each. Bazley also had 10 rebounds for a double-double. Keshawn Justice had 19 points. Utah Jazz Two-Way Jason Preston had a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
