
Stars Fall to Lakers in Second Game of Back-To-Back

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, fell to the South Bay Lakers 118-109 tonight on the road to conclude the team's final back-to-back set of the season.
The Stars (21-21) were led by Justin Reyes, who recorded his second 20-point game of the season with an NBA G League career-high-tying 21 points (12 in the fourth quarter). Utah Jazz two-way player Tyler Cavanaugh finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals, while Isaac Haas scored 16 points, his fourth game in the last five reaching the double-figure mark. Tanner McGrew tallied 14 points and a game-high-tying eight rebounds off the bench, while Jairus Lyles scored 15 points and handed out a team-high eight helpers.
South Bay (16-25) was led by Los Angeles Lakers two-way player Johnathan Williams, who scored a game-high 22 points (16 in the first half) and grabbed a game-high-tying eight rebounds, while Scott Machado notched his eighth double-double of the season (second in the last three games) with 16 points and a game-high 11 assists. Isaac Bonga, currently on assignment from the Los Angeles Lakers, finished with 15 points and a game-high-tying eight boards.
The Lakers led by six points (19-13) midway through the first quarter and extended their lead to double-digits with a 10-0 run (29-13). The Stars trimmed the lead to one possession (41-38) in the second quarter courtesy of a 10-2 spurt, but South Bay responded and entered intermission leading by 13 points (60-47). The Lakers built the lead to as many as 19 points (80-61) in the second half, but the Stars cut the lead to two points (95-93) with a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter. Salt Lake City trailed by one point (97-96) with 5:53 left in the game following a Lyles three-pointer, but the Lakers pushed the lead back to double-digits with an 11-2 run and ultimately earned the nine-point victory to win the season series (2-1) against the Stars.
The Stars will return to Salt Lake City to commence a three-game homestand on Monday, March 4, against Raptors 905 (Toronto Raptors affiliate). The game tips off at 7 p.m. (MT) at Bruin Arena and will be broadcast on Facebook Live, which is accessible via the Salt Lake City Stars Facebook page.
