Lincoln Stars News Release
LINCOLN, Neb. - One thing's for sure about the 2020-21 Lincoln Stars: they aren't going to be pushed around.
While Lincoln remained winless (0-4) in the 2020-21 preseason, the special teams battle took center stage in their 4-1 loss against the Omaha Lancers (2-1) at the Ice Box on Saturday night.
Lincoln took a preseason-high 82 penalty minutes, including 35 for Aleksei Sergeev following a scrum started by Winter Wallace and Lancers goaltender Jakub Dobes in the third period.
The Lancers had seven power plays in the game, including a two-minute 5-on-3 in the third period, which was killed off successfully by the Stars.
Omaha scored three times on the man-advantage, led by the eventual game-winner scored by Nolan Renwick in the second period.
Sergeev got the scoring started for Lincoln in the first period, deflecting a shot from Chase Pietila through the legs of Dobes.
Matt Basgall, Zakary Karpa and Tyler Carpenter joined Renwick in the power-play scoring brigade for Omaha. Guy Blessing made 24 saves in the defeat while Dobes stopped 21 shots. Lincoln went 0-for-2 on the power play.
Through two games this weekend, Lincoln registered 146 penalty minutes.
The Stars' search for a preseason win will continue on Friday night at Ralston Arena against the Lancers.
