October 24, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

The Dubuque Fighting Saints dropped their second preseason game of the season, as the Des Moines Buccaneers used special teams to down the Saints 3-2. Ryan Alexander and Kenny Connors scored in the loss as the Saints moved to 1-1 on the preseason. Zach Faremouth netted two, including the game-winner for the Bucs who split the weekend with the Saints.

-Dubuque dominated play through the first ten minutes of the first period as they threw eight shots on net. Daniyal Dzhaniyev was all over the ice in the first but didn't get the puck past Remington Koepple. Dubuque fired eight of the first 12 shots

-Zach Faremouth, who played most of last season with the Fargo Force, got the scoring started in period one as he potted his first of the preseason shorthanded. Faremouth pushed his own rebound past Aidan McCarthy for the first and only goal of the period.

-Des Moines took control of the game in the second period, thanks in large part to special teams. The Bucs netted two power play goals in the middle frame: one from Faremouth and one from returner Matt Choupani. Faremouth's goal ended up being the difference in the game.

-Dubuque would not go quietly into the preseason night as they battled back in the third period. The ice titled heavily in favor of Dubuque as they out chanced the Bucs in the third.

-Ryan Alexander scored his first of the preseason on a slick feed from Dylan Herzog. Herzog's assist was his second in as many nights and it helped break the ice for Dubuque.

-Shortly after the Saints notched another tally as Connor Kurth found Kenny Connors backdoor for his first of the preseason. Connors was all alone backdoor and able to rip the puck past Koepple to cut the lead to just one.

-After a furious finish to the third, the Saints couldn't get the equalizer past Koepple. Simon Mack made three sliding blocks in the final seconds to secure the win for Des Moines.

-Next up for Dubuque, the Green Bay Gamblers on Friday and Saturday of next week. Friday will be at home for the Saints while they will hit the road for their Halloween contest on Saturday.
